Filming difficulties amid the pandemic have been compounded because performers travel from all over the UK and sometimes overseas to take part in the show.

The latest series saw the 2009 Diversity winners perform a Black Lives Matter-inspired routine in which a man in a police uniform knelt on Ashley Banjo, echoing the murder of unarmed black man George Floyd.

The routine, which prompted more than 24,000 complaints to Ofcom, won the must-see moment at the 2021 TV Bafta Awards, which are voted on by the public.

Cowell, who created the show, was replaced by Banjo on the judging panel for the final and semi-finals of the latest series while recovering from a back injury.

Britain’s Got Talent will launch on April 16 at 8 p.m. and continue on April 17 at 7:35 p.m. on ITV and ITV Hub.
