Kangana Ranaut launches a reality show with 16 controversial contestants

Ekta Kapoor and Kangana Ranaut have come together to create a new digital-only reality show, called Lock Upp, which will begin airing on ALT Balaji and MX Player tonight. The show has made headlines in recent days for its choice of controversial contestants, including comedian Munawar Faruqui, model Poonam Pandey, wrestler Babita Phogat, actress Nisha Rawal and TV sensation Karanvir Bohra. Every teaser, poster and trailer for the show has been buzzing on social media as netizens waited for its launch.

The show recently hit a snag just before its premiere when it was challenged for plagiarism and a court issued a suspension order on its air date. However, the honorable court later overturned the order and allowed the show to air as scheduled.

With 16 controversial contestants entering Kangana Ranaut Prison and vying for basic amenities, Lock Upp promises to be the most fearless reality show in the country. Tonight’s special episode had contestants grilled by a special panel under the watchful eyes of fiery host, Kangana. The actress introduced each inmate to the public, and after being grilled by a special panel, they were taken by guards to “closure.”

Raveena Tandon made a special appearance on the show in support of Kangana. Kangana walked around the prison during her conversation with Raveena, and also asked the latter to be the jailer for a day.

The show had been compared to Bigg Boss in terms of concept, but the prison the contestants would live in bears no resemblance to the Bigg Boss house. Candidates will have to make do with the bare minimum in the prison, with beds as beds, basic kitchen equipment and utensils, and Indian-style toilets.

Munawar Faruqui was the first contestant to enter the prison, wearing an orange jumpsuit. Swami Chakrapani was the second candidate to enter the prison, after a series of grillings by panelists, who questioned him about his actions and opinions. Chakrapani and designer Saisha Shinde, who made headlines for her gender transformation, were sent to Lock Upp together.

Lock Upp will air live tonight, February 27 at 10 p.m. on ALTBalaji & MX Player!
