kykNet’s reality show returns in 2023


To celebrate its 10th anniversary, kykNet’s reality food show, Kokkedoor, returns in 2023. After debuting in 2013, the show became an instant hit. Kokkedoor is looking for candidates to participate in the next season of the show. Here’s everything you need to know.

Kokkedoor is one of the few Afrikaans cooking shows available on South African television. In its next season, Kokkedoor Vuur & Vlanthe show will take contestants outside of the kitchen and as they prepare delicious meals over the coals.

Similar to previous seasons, Kokkedoor focuses on recipes for dishes worthy of the show’s contest. The show’s teams are made up of two people, a professional chef or skilled cook and a food “enthusiast” or home cook with a passion for grilling on the braai.

In 2019, Chief Nic Van Wyka judge on Kokkedoorsaid South African cuisine excites her because of its simplicity and unique flavors.

“Preparing these meals and sharing our culture with others is how we show our hospitality,” van Wyk said.


Anyone interested in entering Kokkedoor must enter via kykNet website or send video via WhatsApp.

Here’s what you need to add in your audition video:

  • An introduction
  • Where you live
  • The “pro” must explain their dietary history and/or qualifications
  • The team should describe their family relationship
  • Why do you want to participate in Kokkedoor

Entries for Kokkedoor opens Saturday, September 24, and the series is looking for teams that know their way around a fire. Interested persons must be 18 years of age or older on the day of the audition.

Only South African or Namibian citizens with a valid ID number will be allowed entry. Auditions will take place in January and February 2023 in Bloemfontein, Gauteng and Cape Town. Closing of registrations on December 1st.

Kokkedoor Filming is due to start on April 17 and crews should be available until May 6. The show will be shot in the Western Cape.
