Oaklawn hosts talent show with $8,000 in prize money

ELKHART, Ind. — Oaklawn will hold auditions for its first annual “Oaklawn’s Got Talent” competition on Nov. 14 at the Lerner Theater.

Of the 30 people who will audition on November 14 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., the top four artists will be invited to perform again at the Lerner Theater on May 20 at 7 p.m.

This new talent show contest is Oaklawn’s fundraising opportunity that will replace their annual “Spring Spectacular” event.

“Coming back, we wanted something new and fresh, but also something that would showcase homegrown talent in our community. That way we can spotlight and reward local talent while funding services mental health and addictions,” said Kari Tarman, executive director of the Oaklawn Foundation.

A panel of judges, who will not review or criticize any talent acts, will decide which four acts will advance and also place each of the four in the May 20 event.

Each of the four advancing artists will win a cash prize: $4,000 for first place, $2,500 for second, $1,000 for third and $500 for fourth.

Anyone living in Elkhart County or St. Joseph County is eligible to apply for the talent show by submitting an entry outlining the talent that will be performed.

Audition requests will be accepted until 5 p.m. on November 5.
