A recently announced reality TV show starring Priyanka Chopra, Usher and Julianne Hough is drawing criticism online for what observers perceive to be a flawed premise. The Activist is described as “a series of contests featuring six inspiring activists associated with three prominent public figures who work together to bring about meaningful change to one of three vitally important global causes: health, l ‘education and the environment’.
But what people have opposed is the element of competition to raise awareness for important causes. Actor Jameela Jamil tweeted, “Couldn’t they just donate the money it takes to pay for this INCREDIBLY expensive talent and make this show, straight to activist causes? Rather than turning activism into a game and then giving away a fraction of the money we badly need in a “prize …?” People are dying. “
Activist Cameron Kasky, who helped organize the March for Our Lives national student protest in 2018, wrote in a tweet: There are people who put their lives on the line to demand change from the abusive ruling class and then there are lazy white losers like me who complain on the internet all day. All “activists”.
Another person commented: “Some days I wonder if we are living under the worst possible time. And almost daily, my wonders are confirmed. And one person wrote that she “hadn’t seen TV so united to hate something since Gal Gadot sang Imagine in the first month of March 2020”.

According to Deadline, the show will feature activists as they “face challenges in promoting their causes, with their success measured through online engagement, social action and contribution from hosts.”
