Coachella Valley fans of ABC’s “The Bachelor” and “The Bachelorette” have seen familiar places on blockbuster reality shows for years. Tonight you can see a familiar face: News Channel 3 sporting director Blake Arthur.
In the second episode of the current series, single Michelle Young goes on a group date to play basketball with her suitors. Arthur announced “The Bachelorette’s Basketball Battle,” featuring the contestants as well as celebrity coaches, WNBA stars Dearica Hamby and Diamond DeShields. It also provided play-by-play of the basketball game. The episode airs tonight at 8:00 p.m. on KESQ News Channel 3.
Arthur gave an overview of his experiences on the show. “The producers had a script set up for me, but I had the freedom to ad-lib and add my own style, which was really fun.”
The basketball footage was produced over the summer at the Palm Valley School gymnasium in Rancho Mirage. “For me personally, it was really cool. However, it was anything but cool that day.” remembers Arthur. “I think it was the hottest day of the year (filming was in August), so waiting in costume was uncomfortable to say the least. Not to mention, while I was waiting for my call, I was very anxious and excited. “
Arthur said he let his “adrenaline and instinct” take over when he was on set. “Normally I don’t get nervous or scared, but that was different, considering ‘The Bachelorette’ is a nationwide TV show on a big network. I just thought to myself, have fun and luckily, I was able to settle down and do it. “
