Zee World launches dance reality show in Nigeria

English-language Bollywood entertainment channel, Zee World, has announced the launch of a reality dance competition, “Dance Naija Dance”, in Nigeria.

The popular Indian entertainment company made this known at a press conference, held on Wednesday at Radisson Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos State.

The reality show will air exclusively on Zee World on DStv channel 166 and GOtv channel 125 later this year.

During the press conference, Somnath Malakar, CEO of ZEE Africa (Sub-Saharan Africa and Indian Ocean Islands), said Nigerians stand out for their incredible dancing skills.

“The television channel is aware of the harsh economic reality of the country; however, I think entertainment is one of the ways to reduce worry, provide an escape and make people happy,” Malakar said.

According to him, Zee World, being a catalyst for family happiness, saw fit to create something unique and electrifying for its audience.

“Knowing full well how important Zee World is to family entertainment needs in Nigeria, we took steps to ensure that we would always be up to the job. There is deep love for Zee World among Nigerians and Zee World has become part of the way of life,” he said.

Naija Dance reality show

From resounding success in India to inevitable greatness in Singapore and 52 countries across Africa in 2021, producers say it’s time for Zee World’s Dance Naija Dance to land in Nigeria.

Zee World has become a global celebration brand, bringing together Africa and India.

Dance Naija Dance features a fusion of Nigerian-Indian dance movements, uniting the two cultures through music, vibrancy, color and diversity.

Dance Naija Dance will be anchored by a mix of Nollywood and Bollywood personalities and dancers.

These include hosts – Hero Daniels and Pelumi Buari, choreographers/mentors – Sashin Kandhai and Kenneth Agabata; while Kunle Remi and Uraysha Ramrachia will be the judges.

The reality show is set to run for 10 weeks and with not only a five million naira cash grand prize but also prize baskets for the winning teams.

With the reality competition set to begin airing in August, production has begun for the top 16 finalists selected from over 350 entries across Nigeria.

Dance Naija Dance will be broadcast in 52 countries in Africa and the Indian Ocean islands.

Zee World has been a pioneer in redefining entertainment across Africa over the years.

It is the first channel to broadcast Indian series and movies dubbed in English.

They also present the first Afro-Indian Telenovela, Mehek, in 2018 and the first pan-African cross-country fusion dance challenge, Dance Africa Dance in 2021.
